Job Overview:

Hard Knox Rehabilitation And Mentoring Services Corporation is currently seeking motivated, responsible, and compassionate individuals for the position of Part-Time Youth Mentor. This is a great entry-level opportunity for college students pursuing degrees in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or related fields, and for individuals with relevant volunteer or professional experience.

Youth Mentors will provide structured, one-on-one mentoring to adolescents and youth who are at high risk of entering, or are already involved in, the juvenile justice system. These youth may also be involved in the foster care system or display behavioral challenges. The role is ideal for individuals looking to make a long-term impact in their community through direct service.



Key Responsibilities:
• Provide structured individual mentorship to assigned youth during after-school hours and weekends.
• Teach and support youth in developing skills in:
• Behavioral self-regulation
• Impulse control
• Anger management
• Alternative problem-solving
• Conflict resolution
• Model and reinforce positive decision-making, leadership, and responsible behavior.
• Work collaboratively with other mentors, program supervisors, and professionals (e.g., case workers, probation officers, educators).
• Document all sessions, behavioral observations, incident reports, and progress updates clearly and professionally.
• Participate in all initial and ongoing mentor training, including observation and competency testing.
• Maintain professional ethics and boundaries at all times.



Required Qualifications:
• Minimum 2 years of paid or unpaid (volunteer) experience working with youth in high-risk or vulnerable settings.
Credit is given for at least one year of verifiable volunteer experience in a related field.
• High school diploma or GED required; current college students or graduates in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or related fields are highly encouraged to apply.
• Strong writing and grammar skills; must be able to document youth behavior, complete incident reports, and write monthly progress summaries.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and use sound judgment.
• Proficient in basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word); must own a reliable computer or laptop.
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.

• Must be able to work after school hours, during afternoons and evenings.
• Must have a valid Nevada driver’s license, car insurance, and a reliable, insured vehicle.
• Clean driving record; able to pass random drug screening, including marijuana testing.
• Must be able to pass a national FBI fingerprint background check.
• Current First Aid/CPR card, or ability to obtain before employment.



Interview & Testing Requirements:
• All candidates must complete an observed written exam as part of the interview process.
• Candidates will be tested on:
• Proper grammar and writing
• Youth behavior documentation
• Incident and progress report writing
• Basic mentorship competency and ethics



Preferred (but not required):
• Experience with trauma-informed care or behavioral interventions
• Familiarity with juvenile justice systems, school-based supports, or therapeutic youth services
