Job Summary and Description
Provides American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students and internal partners of the Alamo Colleges.
Reports to the Interpreter Services Manager.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree or a combination of relevant experience, education and training that equates to the required degree.
- Two years of experience performing American Sign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter or an equivalent combination of experience and education in certified interpreting.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Four years of experience performing American Sign Language interpretation as a certified interpreter or an equivalent combination of experience and education in certified American Sign Language interpreting.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must possess and maintain Texas Health and Human Services (HHS), Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Advanced Certificate, or comparable Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification.
- Comparable certification from other states, pending BEI Certification, is acceptable but BEI certification must be completed within six months of hire. Individuals pursuing BEI certification may apply and must complete BEI certification within six months of hire.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver license. Must be insurable through the organization’s insurers.
Motor Vehicle Report is required in addition to background check and drug screen.
