Tax Accountant

Role Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Tax Accountant with 1 to 3 years of experience to join our growing finance team. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of tax principles, general accounting practices, and a strong working knowledge of debits and credits. This role will support the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, assist with tax planning and compliance, perform bookkeeping and payroll functions, and ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file federal, state, and local income tax returns for entities and individuals.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual tax provisions, including calculations and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of tax-related documents and general ledger entries.
  • Analyze financial statements to identify potential tax savings or issues.
  • Perform full-cycle bookkeeping including data entry, bank reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Process payroll, ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations, and manage payroll reporting.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes related to tax and accounting.
  • Reconcile tax and payroll general ledger accounts, with a clear understanding of debits and credits.
  • Assist with responding to tax notices and audits from regulatory agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in tax accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll processing.
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, especially debits and credits.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting/tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, ProSystem fx, Gusto, or similar).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • CPA or pursuit of CPA certification is a plus.
