
Communications Intern

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. One year of general record-keeping or bookkeeping experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and Certifications: Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation for work assignments as needed.
Knowledge: This internship opportunity is open to college students interested in gaining hands-on experience in communications. The Communications Intern will support the Communications Division across various tasks, including:
- Writing and editing content for web, traditional, and social media platforms
- Creating audio and visual content
- Developing presentations, pamphlets, graphics, and reports
- Assisting in the implementation of communication strategies for projects and initiatives
- Supporting event planning efforts
- Assisting with media relations
- Conducting departmental research and performing administrative duties
Desired Skills & Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic design knowledge and familiarity with design principles
- Experience with social media platforms and analytics
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Interest in public service
Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, and lifting and carrying light objects from 5% to 50% of work time, depending upon the specific assignment.
Working Conditions: This position requires a flexible schedule and may involve assignments in various locations to support communication needs. Work may occasionally occur outside regular business hours or on weekends. Candidates should be able to:
- Bend, stoop, reach, stand, and move between work areas regularly
- Sit and use a computer for extended periods
- Operate a keyboard, handle paper documents, and use cameras or audiovisual equipment
- Read digital and printed materials with sufficient near vision acuity
- Communicate effectively in person and by phone
- Lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds
