Elementary Teacher – Southside Community School

Southside Community School is a charter school located in southern Tucson. We are a Title I school, providing services to students in daycare and kindergarten through 8th grade. We are dedicated to helping students and families in our community by providing a quality education in a safe and caring environment. We provide free breakfast, lunch, and snacks to the students, and free daycare and all-day kindergarten. We also have a free after-school program until 5:00 P.M.

At Southside Community School, the goal of our Elementary Department is to give students the foundations they need to be successful in their school careers, while also teaching them to love learning.

A person in this position will need to be:

• Caring – We are looking for someone who enjoys being around elementary schoolers and has a sincere interest in getting to know them as people, not just as students.
• Organized – Teaching requires the ability to keep track of lots of information at the same time. To be effective, a teacher needs to have the ability to be both tidy and consistent.
• Energetic – Our students need someone who is going to make learning fun for them! Working with younger students requires a lot of energy and enthusiasm.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Designing, planning, and implementing lesson plans for math, reading, writing, science, and social studies
• Actively assessing student performance, both formally and informally, and responding to struggling students effectively
• Organizing and managing a classroom
• Participating in professional development activities
• Take and maintain daily classroom attendance
• Decide whether to promote or retain a student in their grade level in conjunction with the administration and the governing board

Minimum Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree
• Classroom experience preferred
• Commitment to collaboration with colleagues and effective teams
• Strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, and initiative
• AZDPS Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
• AEPA Elementary Education Subtests I and II
• SEI Endorsement
