HRC Clinical Coordinator

Partnerships for Trauma Recovery (PTR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to healing the psychological and psychosocial impacts of trauma among survivors of international human rights abuses. These include individuals forcibly displaced due to war, torture, and persecution based on  identity or beliefs, gender-based violence, and other forms of interpersonal violence. PTR provides culturally and  contextually responsive, trauma-informed and linguistically accessible psychological and psychosocial care for asylum seekers and refugees from around the world. 


 

Northern California Human Rights Clinic (HRC) 

In partnership with the Alameda Health System, PTR hosts the Human Rights Clinic, with the Psychosocial Care Program serving as a key liaison to ensure coordinated care. Each year, the clinic provides over 300 psychological and physical evaluations to asylum seekers. Our team of medical professionals evaluate the emotional and physical wellbeing of clients, and work with legal partners to provide expert testimonies in immigration court.


 

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The HRC Clinical Coordinator will be joining a dynamic nonprofit organization working at the juncture of global mental health, human rights and immigration, and will have the opportunity to have a lasting impact on individuals’ lives. The HRC Clinical Coordinator will provide clinical coordination and case management services for asylum seekers from different countries around the world in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of professionals providing direct services. This position will also offer a unique opportunity to become part of the pro bono Human Rights Clinic within Alameda Health System and a team of passionate medical providers serving asylum seekers. 

As part of PTR and the Alameda Health System, the HRC Clinical Coordinator will be in a unique position to leverage resources offered by both establishments to support HRC/PTR clients. This position involves assisting clients in navigating medical, legal, and social services, while also fostering collaborative partnerships to enhance access to comprehensive support. The ideal candidate will demonstrate self-sufficiency, strong organizational skills, flexibility, along with a deep commitment to promoting well-being for forcibly displaced communities.


 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Human Rights Clinic (HRC) Clinical Coordination (60%) 

  • Coordinate and manage referrals to and from the Human Rights Clinic (HRC), collaborating with partner organizations and service providers, including refugee resettlement agencies, legal service providers, community mental health practitioners, faith-based programs, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage scheduling for HRC appointments, facilitate communication with legal teams, and coordinate interpreter services.
  • Implement specialized intake, conduct screening and determine  Survivor of Torture eligibility determinations.    
  • Connecting HRC clients with services based on individualized screening assessments. 
  • Coordinate with providers and medical residents interested in learning and shadowing HRC providers for educational purposes. 
  • Utilize PTR/HRC information management systems to track patient data for reporting purposes. 
  • Create a respectful, inclusive space that supports culturally responsive service by staff and interpreters.
  • Support  with administrative tasks, outreach, logistics, and coordination of meetings, training, and documentation.


 

Provision of Psychosocial Care & Case Management (40%) 

  • Provide culturally appropriate, linguistically accessible, and trauma-informed low-level case management to HRC clients. 
  • Conduct initial and follow-up assessments to determine clients’ needs, develop and implement individualized intervention plans, and obtain client outcomes at regular intervals. 
  • Maintain accurate case notes in the Salesforce client charting system in accordance with agency guidelines. 
  • Engage in new initiatives and partnerships, and identify opportunities for psychosocial care program development.


 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Health or related fields. 
  • Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Experience working cross-culturally with highly vulnerable individuals or communities.
  • Experience providing trauma-informed care. 


 

Required Competencies & Skills 

  • Highly detail-oriented, organized and independent with strong coordination, time management and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to learn quickly and be receptive to feedback. 
  • Ability to address challenges with creativity, initiative and resourcefulness. 
  • Ability to write with professional language and maintain excellent records. 
  • Strong understanding of client confidentiality and privacy, with the ability to adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to set boundaries, practice self-care, and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to developing program needs and requirements. 
  • Cultural humility  and respectfulness for identity differences 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  •  Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Google Drive, and internet research. 
  •  Commitment to the wellbeing of the refugee and asylum-seeking population & interest in global human rights, immigrant rights and social justice. 


 

Preferred Experience 

  • Fluency in a language commonly spoken by refugee and asylum-seeking communities in the Bay Area (e.g., Spanish, Tigrinya, etc.).
  • Experience utilizing Psychosocial Wellbeing Index assessment tool. 
  • Experience working in a hospital or community-based medical clinic setting and with Electronic Medical Records or other patient-related data systems.
  • Experience working in multilingual settings and/or collaborating effectively with in-person interpreters. 
  • Prior experience supporting forcibly displaced individuals, including refugees, asylum seekers, or other migrant populations.
