Environmental Health Program Supervisor

Examples of Duties:

 

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

  • Maintain a QA plan for On-Site Wastewater.  Work in the field as needed to prevent backlog and provide assistance (second opinions, staff support, training) as needed.
  • Review the work of each staff member on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to ensure that established standards are being met.   Monitor activities through computer records to identify trends in workloads.  Adjust as necessary.
  • Ensure the staff know and follow the established State and Local standards, set work quantity and quality standards for Environmental Health Program/Section, and provide assistance in the development of local regulations.
  • Provide on the job training and orientation for new employees and staff, evaluate staff training needs and select staff to attend standardized training courses.
  • Monitor needs for equipment and supplies required for performance of mandated activities and replenish as necessary.
  • Participate in planning the annual budget for Environmental Health.
  • Carryout Performance Management (PM) roles and responsibilities, including identifying and communicating performance improvement opportunities and adjusting performance and practice to achieve established PM goals.
  • Implement strategies aimed at achieving Health Equity, including but not limited to: attending trainings to better understand inequities, identifying and addressing barriers to health, serving on the Health Equity Team or its subcommittees, engaging in internal or external efforts to eliminate health disparities.
  • Assist in various preparedness activities as the need arises such as H1N1, bioterrorism event, or other disease outbreak. 

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Have at least 30 semester hours of physical, biological, natural, life, or health science.
  • NC REHS, 6 years' experience in onsite wastewater.
  • Registered Environmental Health Specialist with NC State Board of Environmental Health Specialist Examiners and have a valid Driver's License.  Authorized in onsite wastewater.
