TITLE: Athletic Trainer
QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education approved program. (Master’s degree preferred) • Actively certified by the National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) • Actively licensed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners • New Jersey Department of Education State Board of Examiner’s Standard Certificate (or eligible) • Current CPR/AED for professional rescuer certified • Expertise in injury recognition, first aid, emergency medical skills treatment and rehabilitative techniques, and conditioning/preventative programs • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable
RESPONSIBLE TO: Athletic Director
JOB GOAL: To help maintain the physical wellbeing of interscholastic athletes and students through the development and implementation of a comprehensive athletic health care program that focuses on injury prevention and provides for injury evaluation and immediate care and rehabilitation of injured athletes and students. He/she is responsible for working with athletic coaches to ensure that all students/athletes are provided or referred for the proper medical care and treatment
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES: 1. Provide first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, and application of appropriate medical treatment and follow up care. 2. Develops rehabilitation and prevention programs. 3. Refers injured athletes to appropriate health care providers and coordinates care of athletic injuries with medical professionals including securing physician clearance forms authorizing return to athletic activities. 4. Works in conjunction with school physician, school nurses, and administration. 5. Reports to and works with athletic director to coordinate a facility events schedule of coverage for essential practices and home games for both the head athletic trainer (this position) and, if needed, an assistant athletic trainer. 6. Maintains appropriate medical records, compiles injury reports and provides these reports to the necessary medical professionals and administration. 7. Maintains inventory of athletic training room and annually orders necessary supplies within the athletic training department budget. 8. Requires flexible hours during the course of a calendar year and must be able to work remotely at off-campus field locations throughout the city. Requires travel during football season and essential post-season play. 9. Responsible for administrative duties within the athletic training department 10. Notifies athletic director and coaches of athlete injuries and ongoing care. 11. Maintain professional licensure and applicable certifications. 12. Possess effective computer, oral and written communication skills. 13. Be of professional and of high ethical standards. 14. Maintain daily contact with head coaches regarding injury update. 15. Determine if a player is capable of continued participation in a game and/or practices if the player is injured in the absence of medical personnel. 16. Assists and advises the coaching staff regarding injury prevention, conditioning programs and the selection, care and fitting of protective equipment. 17. Responsibilities will extend to providing training supervision at all other major home meets, tournaments, etc. which would involve a number of teams and significant amount of time. 18. In-service coaches prior to each season including CPR/AED certifications. 19. Recommends to Athletic Director the maintenance and repair of equipment where feasible. 20. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Superintendent.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of staff.
