Content Writer Student Assistant
The position of Content Writer student assistant is primarily responsible for assisting the BCAS staff in the development and execution of web content. This position reports to the Director of Communications & Marketing. You must be an undergraduate student at The University of Akron. Public Relations, Integrated Marketing, or English students preferred, but not required.
Candidate must be able to work for a minimum of two full consecutive semesters.
Responsibilities:
- Understanding of—or willingness to learn—how to write effectively for the web, including using headings, keywords, and concise language.
- Maintain a consistent voice and tone across all web content.
- Update web pages to ensure content is accurate, timely, and consistent with University of Akron branding and style guidelines.
- Assist with proofreading and fact-checking content prior to publishing.
- Contribute to organizing and managing digital content within the university's content management system (dotCMS).
- Research, write, and edit clear and engaging content for the website, including academic program pages, news stories, student testimonials, event previews, and faculty biographies.
- Interview students, faculty, and alumni to develop authentic testimonials that highlight academic programs.
- Collaborate with the Director of Communications and Marketing to develop new content that supports student recruitment and retention.
- Assist the BCAS staff with the implementation of marketing initiatives. Specifically, the student hired will help write marketing materials, which include but are not limited to social media posts, web stories, brochures and press releases.
- Track deadlines and manage multiple assignments with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to grammar, punctuation, and clarity.
- Strong organizational and time management skills are critical – must adhere to deadlines, to multi-task and to be able to prioritize projects.
- Strong communication skills who is confident with working with other students, faculty, and staff.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and contribute to team projects.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
- Experience writing for publications, blogs, websites, or social media platforms.
- Basic understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) principles.
- Experience conducting interviews and turning them into written stories or profiles
The BCAS is looking for someone that can work up to 10 hours per week, depending on the project demands.
The pay is $12/hr.
