Social Media Manager I

Summary of Job Duties:

At its core, the manager of university social media is not only a strategist but a public relations practitioner who plays a key role in the university social media implementation and ability to manage relationships with audiences. The Manager of University Social Media is fluent in the language of social media who develops, coordinates, implements and leads the University of Arkansas’ social media strategy and marketing to build brand awareness, generate student engagement and enhance the university’s reputation in the state and nation. This position is a part of University Relation's core communications team, reporting to the Director of Integrated Communications and serves as the university’s lead on social media content and marketing strategy to ensure consistency in voice while cultivating, engaging and growing various audiences through compelling and institutional storytelling and social media marketing.

The manager collaborates with units across campus and the UREL video and design teams to produce a wide array of multimedia products and may develop a team of interns and ambassadors. The manager will also maintain the university’s primary presence on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and other relevant digital platforms while also listening across platforms to identify – and respond to – trends and emerging issues. This position ensures that social media channels, social media content and other digital communications are created, maintained, updated and measured/evaluated for effectiveness. This position serves as the university’s subject-matter expert on social media strategy, storytelling and marketing and serves as a leader and advisor to all social media contributors across campus, hosting a quarterly social media manager meeting and participating in monthly communicator meetings to share trends, best practices, university strategy and professional development with campus contributors. This position is highly collaborative with the Integrated Communications team in support of the university’s marketing, communications and public information goals. The manager will work to grow the university’s social media team, as needed, to provide the highest level of service to the university and all of its units to meet these goals.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing, English, or related field

At least two years of related experience in social media content strategy and marketing

At least two years of related experience with social media listening, management and analysis tools including Sprout Social

At least two years of basic graphic design, photography and video production skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and video editing apps)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, English, or related field

Fluency in digital media

At least two years experience with crisis communications

At least two years experience working in a collaborative environment

At least two years supervisory experience

Customer service experience is a plus


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Exceptionally strong social media and multimedia storytelling, communicative and interpersonal skills

Superb writing, editing, and communication skills with the ability to adapt stories for separate audiences and develop an institutional voice and implement institutional voice to social media posts

Proven ability to take complex topics and explain in succinct and understandable terms

Knowledge of the principles and practices of social media and/or public relations

Knowledge of design and layout techniques

Ability to work collaboratively, solve problems, and meet deadlines

Ability to research, organize, and disseminate information

Ability to maintain files

Ability to write descriptive and informative narratives

Ability to use computers to enter data and publish graphic materials

Ability to create detailed plans that can be deployed by others, if necessary

Ability to synthesize information

Ability to be punctual and reliable

Salary Information:

A minimum salary of $56,123 - commensurate with education and experience
