Position Summary:
This undergraduate student position is part of a grant-funded project to digitize the Horace and Evelyn Stuart photographs. The images, which date from 1897 to 1978, visually document the rich history of the Black community in Akron, northeast Ohio, and beyond. Undergraduate student assistants will create metadata for the images and upload them to our digital repository and will assist the Project Manager with quality control on the digitized images and the other students’ metadata.
Supervision:
Undergraduate student assistants will report to the Project Manager for work assignments and scheduling.
Job Description:
- Perform quality control for scanned images and metadata
- Create metadata, including keywords and subject headings
- Work with Project Manager to ensure archival practices and standards are met
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office
Suite
- Experience using scanners and scanning software
- Attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Interest in preserving historical materials
- Ability to stand/walk on rough surfaces for long periods, bend and/or stoop, and
lift heavy items up to 50 lbs.
Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, no evenings or weekends, 10 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$12/hr.
All University of Akron student employees must meet the designated minimum standards as stated on the Student Employment Eligibility Chart. UA student employees must be 18 years or older at the time of their start date. Any approved remote work conducted by student employees MUST be performed within the state of Ohio.
