Editorial Intern, Children's Trade - Summer
Bloomsbury Children’s Books is seeking an editorial intern for Summer 2025. We are located in Midtown/Herald Square and publish bestselling and acclaimed picture book, middle grade, and young adult authors such as Salina Yoon, Sherri Winston, Kate Messner, Kalynn Bayron, Brigid Kemmerer, and Renée Watson. Interns will work in the office two days a week and remotely the rest of the time.
Position Profile
As a Bloomsbury Children’s editorial intern, you will work with the Editorial team on a variety of projects with a focus on picture books, middle-grade books, young adult books, and graphic novels.
Primary Responsibilities
- Reading submissions and writing comprehensive reader’s reports
- Researching everything from comparable titles and covers in the market to current pop culture trends
- Preparing and submitting titles to the Cataloging-in-Publication and Library of Congress programs
- Updating information in our data systems and taking on various administrative tasks
- Attending editorial, production, and cover meetings
Completing a variety of other tasks as needed.
Requirements
We are looking for creative and motivated individuals, who ideally have the following skills:
- Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Firm grasp of grammar, with a keen eye for detail
- High level of familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to work efficiently and independently
- Most important: Familiarity with and enthusiasm for children’s books
Duration:
June through August 2024
We require a commitment of 20 hours per week (specific schedule to be arranged with your supervisor) for the entire internship term. We strongly recommend that candidates be available on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.
Compensation
This position pays $18.00/hour, and candidates may wish to arrange for college credit.
Location
Bloomsbury has adopted a hybrid work policy comprising of two days in-office work and three days of remote work. Candidates must be able to commute to Bloomsbury’s New York City office on a mutually agreed-upon schedule for in-office work.
