Mobile Truck Technician

Great Western Trailer (GWT) is immediately hiring Mobile Truck Technicians. As a Mobile Truck Technician, you will perform maintenance and repairs on semi-trailers, using a mobile service truck to visit customer locations for servicing, repair, and maintenance of trailers and semi-trailers. Mobile Truck Technicians Can Expect the Following Responsibilities:

 

Inspect and Repair:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on air brake systems, electrical systems, and other trailer components.
  • Inspect and repair damage to trailer bodies, chassis, doors, floors, etc.
  • Handle minor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic assemblies, including lift gates.
  • Conduct basic and advanced repairs, such as welding, cutting, and fabrication.


 

Install or Replace:

  • Add-on components like toolboxes, ramp kits, dunnage racks, and winches.
  • Show willingness to learn new skills and take on new tasks as needed.


 

Quality Check and Reporting:

  • Prepare service reports and other necessary documentation.
  • Examine work for defects to ensure high-quality repairs.
  • Follow troubleshooting procedures to deliver quality work according to specifications.
  • Communicate concerns and assist others when needed.


 

Safety First:

  • Follow safety standards, company policies, and regulations.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (no recent DUIs).
  • A valid CDL license and DOT medical card.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Own a personal set of hand tools.
  • Broad knowledge of semi-trailer equipment, tools, and systems.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and welding equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.


 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in semi-trailer repairs.
  • ASE or other industry-recognized certifications (welding certification a plus).
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.


 

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and bending.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must operate equipment like forklifts, hand tools, welding equipment, and refrigerated trailers.
  • Specific vision abilities including close, distance, and color vision, with the ability to adjust focus.


 

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, chemicals, fumes, and extreme temperatures.
  • Regular exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.
  • Risk of electrical shock.
  • Work may be performed in shops, yards, or on customer sites via mobile service trucks.
