PRIVATE EQUITY CONSULTING
Investor Group Services (IGS) invites candidates with strong research and quantitative skills to apply for the Associate role. This position requires 1-2 years of professional experience and will start ASAP.
IGS is a trusted advisor supporting investors and business leaders through transactions, growth and portfolio value creation initiatives. As a boutique advisory firm that works with private equity firms, strategic acquirers, and their portfolio companies, we help our clients assess investment opportunities across most major sectors by providing them with the data-driven insights and analysis they need to make investments and create value in middle market companies and industries.
WHAT WE DO: M&A Due Diligence, Portfolio Value Creation, Sell-side Industry Analysis.
- Buy-side commercial diligence on mission critical investment issues (addressable market, growth, competition, VoC) for PE & corporate acquisitions.
- Assisting portfolio company management in realizing value through accelerated organic growth, buy and build acquisition strategies and targeted quick strike value creation.
- Sell-side industry reports to assist owners, management, and their advisors/investment bankers in preparing a company for sale.
ROLE OVERVIEW
As an Associate, you will be a part of a collegial and entrepreneurial environment. Our work is fast-paced and provides opportunities for rapid skill and knowledge development. Associates gain experience across a broad set of industries while working on a case team with three to five members. This role takes on a high level of responsibility in the work and client presentations.
Associates at IGS have earned an undergraduate degree and typically have some professional work experience after graduating or through internships. Associates are critical members of our case teams, providing analytic and research support. Associates deliver actionable insight by helping to design and conduct research, prepare analyses, and create presentations to answer to our clients’ key questions, including:
- How large is the company’s market and at what rate is it growing?
- What drives growth in this market?
- How is the company positioned in the competitive landscape?
- How do customers rate the company relative to the competitors?
- How realistic are the new market opportunities?
- What factors drive the company’s ability to generate profits?
- How might the company accelerate growth and/or improve profitability?
Individuals interested in evaluating business strategies, assessing investment opportunities, and assuming a high level of responsibility will find the IGS associate role exciting and challenging. Members of the IGS team quickly gain in-depth knowledge of diverse markets by evaluating a broad range of industries for private equity firms and corporate clients. IGS offers associates the opportunity for advancement within the firm and helps associates shape their own professional development. Some associates opt to attend business school following their tenure with the company.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Bachelor’s degree required.
IGS is looking for candidates who are intellectually curious, driven, and excited about working in a collaborative environment. In addition, candidates should be interested in:

ASSOCIATE SKILL DEVELOPMENT
IGS associates develop a strong set of fundamental business skills through their project work, including the following:
Hard Skills
- Design and execute complex quantitative analysis, including market size and share analyses, through the interpretation of primary and secondary research
- Develop proprietary interview guides and presentations to effectively address clients’ key issues
- Conduct professional and thorough interviews with high-level executives
- Locate and synthesize both qualitative and quantitative publicly-available information
- Develop proficiency in database and spreadsheet modeling
- Analyze margin and cost information and evaluate relative profitability
- Create client presentations, from storyboard to final deliverable
Soft Skills

- Refine formal presentation skills through presentations in case team meetings and training events

ASSOCIATE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Upon joining the firm, associates participate in a hands-on orientation program. More seasoned members of the firm provide an overview of the case process from start to finish, including designing and conducting research, data analysis, and Excel and PowerPoint training.
Ongoing Training
In addition to “on-the-job” training, the firm delivers training sessions throughout the year, led by members of the management team and more experienced team members. Topics cover skill development areas including market modeling and more complex analyses, software tools tips and tricks, research strategies, and presentation skills.
Peer Mentoring
IGS pairs new associates with a peer mentor from the previous year’s associate class to provide practical, real-time guidance and training.
Development Assessments
Associates receive frequent, informal feedback on their progress and development. These assessments provide coaching and actionable suggestions for improvement for an individual’s skill and career development.
