Craft Shop Fellowship

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Assistant Director Fellow will have the opportunity to gain experience in non-profit business management, program design, and leadership. Each Assistant Director Fellow works under the guidance of a Full Time Program Director to oversee day to day operations. Fellowship applicants can choose from opportunities such as the Craft Shop, Aquatics, Adventure Activities, Youth Programs or Environmental Education. They will receive professional development by a YMCA of the Rockies’ Executive Leadership Team member, YUSA training courses, and relevant certifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Control the flow and distribution of products for sale by determining the type of products needed then purchase, determine the prices they are to sell for, how best to display them, and determine what system works best to track all inventory within the Craft and Design Center. 
  • Prepare, develop, promote and supervise Craft and Design Center programs for ages 2 and up. 
  • Train, supervise, schedule, provide professional development opportunities for and evaluate seasonal staff and volunteers in the responsibilities of cashiering and in instruction in 11 different art processes. Be a resource for staff problem solving, handle employee discipline issues and provide leadership to a staff of 4-40 people. 
  • Maintain inventory to ensure that each section has the supplies necessary to accomplish the crafts.  
  • Act as a “go to” person for the day to day functions of the shop. 
  • Be a resource for staff for problem solving on a daily basis. 
  • Resolve guest complaints and grievances. 
  • Resolve employee discipline issues in the Craft and Design Center Director’s (EPC) absence. 
  • Assist in program development and advancement, be a willing, active, and enthusiastic participant in planning and participating activities and affairs of the YMCA. 
  • Set an example for co-workers, staff, and guests. 
  • Participate in daily cleaning of program buildings as assigned. 
  • Work in other departments or program areas as assigned. 

 

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Posess experience in arts and crafts, retail, or have experience in Art Education.
  • Possess high level of office organization and computer efficiencies, including all standard business software, Microsoft Suite and the property management system Hotel Key.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently handle multiple tasks and projects.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Must be at least 18 years old 
  • Must be fluent in speaking English 
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays 
  • Must possess current First Aid and CPR certification

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

 

  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. 
  • Able to work well with frequent interruptions in a busy office environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually fairly high. 
  • Ability to climb stairs and frequently get up and down from the desk.
