Optical Engineer

We are looking for a highly motivated optical Engineer to join our advanced research division at Sterling, VA to support the development, integration, and test of advanced opto-electronics systems. The workload will at times include multiple concurrent projects with a mix of short duration research programs and longer duration technology maturation programs.

The successful candidate must have direct hands-on experience with optics, willing to ask questions and have a passion to see what they build get used for a novel application. Experience with fiber optics is a major plus.

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to the engineering development of fiber optics designs through design analysis component specification, and hardware assembly, integration, and test.
  • Coordinate and support the build, alignment, and performance characterization of passive fiber components like fiber coupler, fiber isolator and fiber combiner.
  • Maintain documentation for the product/system development process.
  • Create and present engineering reports for performance/qualification analysis
  • Specify and purchase parts and equipment required for R&D prototype development
  • Analyze device test performance for continual improvement and new requirements
