Core Responsibilities        

Under the direction of the Director of IT, the IT Support Specialist is responsible for delivering first-level technical support across engineering and administrative environments, ensuring seamless operation of high-performance workstations, engineering software, and network infrastructure. This role manages user access, software licensing, system security, and remote connectivity, while supporting the integration of IT systems with production equipment to maintain operational efficiency and compliance.

Activities and duties

The following activities and duties are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

  • Provide first-level support for engineering applications including installation, updates, and troubleshooting.
  • Set up, configure, and maintain high-performance workstations used for CAD, modeling and programming, ensuring optimal hardware and software performance.
  • Manage software licensing servers and compliance for engineering suites (e.g., FlexLM, DSLS), including seat tracking and user access control.
  • Respond to technical support tickets and user requests, offering timely assistance with hardware, software, and network-related issues for both engineering and administrative staff.
  • Administer user accounts and permissions in Active Directory and network storage systems, ensuring secure access to project files and internal platforms.
  • Support local and remote connectivity, including VPN setup, remote desktop support, and cloud system access for hybrid engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain network infrastructure, including Ethernet connections, switches, access points, and project data synchronization across multiple sites.
  • Manage centralized file storage systems for large-scale engineering data, ensuring reliable access, version control, and backup procedures.
  • Assist with integration of IT systems and production equipment
  • Implement and enforce IT security protocols—including patch management, antivirus protection, and adherence to company cybersecurity and compliance standards.

 

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ collective experience, including internships, in the field of IT or helpdesk support

 

Education / Training

  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field

 

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

U.S. Person is required (ITAR 22 CFR § 120.62)

  • Ability to systematically diagnose and resolve issues with hardware, software, peripherals, and network connectivity.
  • Proficiency in Windows 10/11, Windows Server environments, and basic familiarity with Linux/macOS.
  • Experience supporting or installing CAD and engineering tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of configuring, upgrading, and maintaining desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and mobile devices.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, VPNs, and network troubleshooting basics.
  • Ability to manage Active Directory, permissions, group policies, and email accounts
  • Clear, patient communication with non-technical users. Ability to explain technical concepts simply and maintain a helpful demeanor.
  • Skill in managing multiple tickets or issues at once, often with competing priorities or urgent timelines.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity basics like antivirus software, phishing prevention, and system patching.
  • Ability to clearly document procedures, solutions, and user guides for both technical teams and end users.

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment and involves the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate on telephone and handle all calls in a professional and personable manner.
  • Vision must be good enough to read keyboards, computer screen, reference books, reports and other written documents
  • Ability to drive own or rental vehicle
