Administrative Assistant, WC

Position Type: Federal Work Study Only

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Are you looking for hands-on experience in a welcoming, creative, and student-centered environment? The University of Detroit Mercy Writing Center is seeking a friendly, motivated, and organized Student Assistant to join our team on the McNichols Campus and assist us in marketing our services and sessions in new and creative ways.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Greet students and visitors with warmth and professionalism.
  • Assist students in making and managing Writing Center appointments as needed.
  • Answer phones, take messages, and provide basic information about Writing Center services.
  • Help maintain and update the Writing Center's social media accounts on a weekly, regular basis.
  • Design flyers and other promotional materials for Writing Center programs and events.
  • Distribute flyers across campus and track promotional outreach.
  • Assist with attendance tracking and other general office tasks.
  • Develop new modes of promoting services and professional development sessions.

 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Work-study eligibility required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using Canva or a similar design platform.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable welcoming and assisting a diverse range of students and faculty.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Majors: 

  • Students studying Marketing, Communication, English, or related fields are especially encouraged to apply.
  • This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in communication, promotion, and student services, all while supporting your peers in a collaborative academic space.
  • Experience editing media content using Camtasia, iMovie, and Audacity would be helpful in this role. Director will also provide training as needed.

Anticipated Schedule: 

  • 10-20 hours per week
