Job Classification: Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic

 

The City of Lakeland is building an eligibility list for Firefighter. Candidates must complete both the FireTEAM and CPAT through National Testing Network. Lakeland Fire Department will only accept CPAT scores from the National Testing Network.

 

Salary Information:

*Firefighter EMT – F01                  $21.03-$30.45 Hourly

$52,481- $76,008 Annually

*Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida Paramedic License within three (3) years of employment

 

**Firefighter Paramedic – F02        $24.53-$35.53 Hourly

$61,239-$88,692 Annually 

** Paramedic pay is contingent on the successful completion of Paramedic Orientation and Medical Director approval.

3 Week/24-Hour Kelly Day

Academy Certification: Possession of a current State of Florida Firefighter Certification and a current State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician License or Paramedic License

 

Necessary Certifications

High school diploma from an accredited school or its equivalent.


Special Requirements

1.                Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license.

2.                Must maintain a valid telephone number.

3.                Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida Certification of Compliance for a Firefighter.

4.                Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida Emergency Medical Technician License or Paramedic License.

5.                Must possess a valid 16-hour Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) certification.

6.                May be required to work overtime, or alternate hours, as necessary for the efficient operation of the department. Position may be designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.

7.                BLS-CPR Certification or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

 

Working Environment/Conditions

Requires heavy work that involves constantly lifting, pushing, or raising objects, and exerting 50 to 75 pounds on a recurring basis and exerting 100 pounds of force on a frequent basis. The job risks exposure to the following environmental hazards: Bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet, or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, fumesand/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals, explosives, and violence. The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of taste, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Position will be responsible for working as a member of a combat team in the prevention of fire damage and protection of life and property by combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires. Works as a member of a team in search and rescue operations at the scene of a fire. Performs basic/advanced life support initially on his/her own at the scene of an emergency under the direction of a licensed physician.

 

To be placed on the eligibility list, applicants must complete the following steps:

1.       Prior to submitting an application for employment as a Firefighter, you must successfully complete the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) and FireTEAM assessments offered at the National Testing Network. Please be sure to choose City of Lakeland Fire Department as your department selection when completing the NTN application process.

2.       Submit completed application (online) with valid State of Florida Firefighter/ EMT license or Paramedic license attached. If there is no current Firefighter job posting, please complete the job interest card to receive an email notification when the position is posted.

Your application will not be complete until you submit legible copies of each of the required documents. Additionally, applications are not processed until all required documents have been received by Human Resources.
