Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years old before completion of the training program
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Citizen of the United States before completion of certification training
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a background check and physical fitness assessment
- There is no residency requirement for Omaha Police Officers.
Essential Functions of a Police Officer:
- Enforce federal, state, county, and city laws by de-escalating chaotic situations and apprehending potential suspects.
- Conduct investigations and various patrol activities, including traffic investigations as assigned.
- Serve as a first responder to disaster and emergency incidents.
- Use appropriate force when necessary, including the use of firearms and weapons.
- Communicate effectively with law enforcement personnel, dispatchers, citizens, witnesses, offenders, and victims.
- Safeguard and account for evidence and non-department property.
- Perform administrative activities, including writing reports, completing required documentation, and staying informed about new department orders and policies.
- Participate in court procedures and proceedings.
- Attend and engage in training activities as required.
- Maintain regular attendance in accordance with a schedule established by your supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of an investigation.
