Volunteer Engagement & Recruitment Intern

About the Position:

We are seeking a Volunteer Engagement & Recruitment Intern to support our volunteer recruitment efforts, including targeted outreach and database organization. This intern will gain hands-on experience in volunteer management, nonprofit operations, and community engagement while working closely with Citizen Schools staff.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Volunteer Database Organization & Targeted Outreach – Review and categorize volunteer data based on industry and engagement history; develop segmented contact lists for more effective communication and outreach.
  • Volunteer Recruitment Support – Assist with outreach to former and prospective volunteers and support onboarding processes for the fall program term.
  • Learning Network Volunteer Group Engagement – Contribute to strategies for improving engagement in our national virtual volunteer community by developing and implementing targeted initiatives.
  • Analysis & Recommendations – Analyze engagement data, identify trends, and provide recommendations to strengthen volunteer recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Professional Development – Participate in training, shadowing, and reflective opportunities to grow skills in nonprofit operations and community-based program support.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Nonprofit Management, Education, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related field
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Interest in volunteer coordination, recruitment, and community outreach
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or CRM systems is a plus, but not required
