PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that plays a vital role in the U.S. electric system. PJM ensures the reliability of the largest centrally dispatched control area in North America by coordinating the movement of electricity in all or parts of 13 states. PJM, acting neutrally and independently, operates the largest
competitive wholesale electricity market in the world. PJM manages a sophisticated regional planning process for generation and transmission expansion to assure
future electric.
PJM Market Simulation department is responsible for the Market Efficiency RTEP analyses and for the FTR/ARR Auctions.
Responsibilities:
The Co-op, Market Efficiency, supports analysts and engineers of the Market Efficiency group in performing market simulations using state-of-the-art market simulators, quantifying economic benefits of transmission upgrades, analyzing large volume of data using statistical methods, creating high level economic/engineering reports using Excel and Tableau, developing software tools to help business analytics and maintaining the Market Efficiency database using data analysis techniques.
The Co-op, Market Efficiency responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop software tools using Python, and Excel macros (Computer Science majors).
- Process outputs from the market modeling software using Excel or Python.
- Use data analysis tools to draw conclusions regarding benefits to the electric system, changes in load payments, and adjusted production costs.
- Use big-data techniques and AI tools to analyze real-time and day-ahead data.
- Support the Market Efficiency team in conducting economic analyses.

- Ability to work closely with analysts in a diverse teamwork environment
Preferred Skills:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel; ability to write simple Excel macros; Microsoft Access a strong plus.
- College level courses in: Programming Languages, Data Structures, Statistics, and Business Analytics.
- Experience with Python, C#, SQL or other programming languages
- Experience using PSS/E, PowerWorld or other power system analysis programs
PJM will not be providing Housing/Transportation assistance, the successful candidate must be able to come on-campus when needed.
