Overview
This intensive summer internship provides a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in 3D asset creation for cutting-edge game engines. Interns will apply industry-standard techniques using Blender to create detailed 3D models, textures, and animations optimized for integration into Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) and Virtual Battlespace 4 (VBS4). This program is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice, offering valuable insights into the workflow of game development and simulation environments.
Internship Objectives:
- Receive professional development directly from cutting edge VBS4 industry professionals.
- Leverage proficiency in Blender for 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, and animation.
- Apply processes in asset optimization for real-time rendering in UE5 and VBS4.
- Gain practical experience in integrating 3D assets into game engine environments.
- Contribute to technical requirements and workflows specific to UE5 and VBS4.
- Collaborate with experienced professionals and contribute to real-world projects.
- Build a portfolio showcasing 3D asset creation skills for game development.
Qualifications
We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals who meet the following qualifications:
- Enrollment in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program (e.g., Graphic Design, Game Development, 3D Modeling, Computer Science).
- Basic understanding of 3D modeling principles.
- Familiarity with Blender or similar 3D software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max).
- Strong interest in game development and real-time rendering.
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software and workflows.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) workflows.
- A portfolio that demonstrates artistic and technical ability is highly recommended
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Unreal Engine or other game engines.
- Experience with texture creation software (e.g., Substance Painter, Photoshop).
- Knowledge of game asset optimization techniques.
- Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git).
Responsibilities
Interns will be involved in multiple projects leading to commercially-releasable products.
These projects will include:
- Create 3D models of various assets (e.g., props, environments) to project specifications.
- Develop high-quality textures using industry-standard software.
- Rig and animate 3D models for in-game use.
- Optimize assets for performance within UE5 and VBS4.
- Import and integrate assets into UE5 and VBS4 projects.
- Participate in daily stand-up meetings and project reviews.
- Document workflows and asset creation processes.
- Respond to and implement feedback from supervisors.
