Special Education Teacher Consultant
Summary: Provides direct and indirect service to individual students receiving special education. Provides instructional leadership to general education and special education teachers. Schedules and chairs IEP’s for students on teacher consultant caseload and assigned special education classrooms. Serves as liaison and consultant to local school districts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (Does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform; other duties may be assigned)
- Participates in diagnostic activities for re-evaluation of students on caseload.
- Chairs or participates in individualized education planning (IEP’s) on students with disabilities.
- Provides direct service to students with disabilities as designated by the IEP.
- Provides consultation to school personnel regarding educational needs of students, such as: assignments, modified curriculum, mobility in the classroom.
- Provides consultation to parents of students with disabilities.
- Works closely with other school staff in designing instructional goals and objectives for each student.
- Prepares written report of student progress at close of every year.
- Chair annual review meetings on students with disabilities. Design new objectives, plan schedule with input from school personnel and parents.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required for this position. In-person attendance requirements may vary and will be determined by the supervisor.
Education and/or Experience:
- Required master’s degree in education or a field of study related to special education.
- Show evidence of minimum of 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience, not less than 2 years of which shall be in teaching in a special education classroom.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with special education endorsement
- Teacher Consultant approval from Department of Education or eligible for such approval.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving record.
Employment Date, Salary, and Fringe Benefits: Anticipated employment date is August 15, 2025. Placement on the Special Education Salary Schedule depends on qualifications and experience. New employee starting salary range is $56,569 - $105,246. Paid health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurances, sick, and personal business days.
