FISHERIES WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST I – Position# K0235325
This unclassified, full-time position is located in the KDWP Fisheries Division at the Farlington Fish Hatchery and is directly supervised by Kyle Steinert, Assistant Hatchery Manager.
The incumbent conducts a variety of duties relating to the KDWP, Farlington Fish Hatchery & Kansas Aquatic Biodiversity Center, and other departmental duties as needed. The incumbent assists the hatchery manager and fish culturists with their duties. Those duties may include all aspects of fish propagation/culture work in ponds or tanks, imperiled aquatic species propagation/culture, live fish transport, maintenance of buildings, equipment, and grounds, and providing information to the general public including conducting hatchery tours. The incumbent should be comfortable with independent use of water quality monitoring equipment and other fish culture tools, grounds maintenance equipment, fish transport equipment, and tools used for routine maintenance. The incumbent will have joint responsibility for supervising seasonal employees to accomplish the duties as assigned. Some weekend work, work outside of the normal workday and travel for work will be required.
The incumbent must obtain a Kansas Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification, Category 5-Aquatic Pesticides within 1 year of employment.
As a condition of employment, the employee will be required to live within a 15-minute drive to the Farlington Fish Hatchery. It is understood that the employee will be on “Stand By” when necessary, on a rotating basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in fisheries science/management or wildlife science/management is required. One year of relevant technical experience in an environmental field and/or program is preferred. The successful candidate must pass a background check and possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
