Status: Parks Seasonal (Mid-May to end of August)

Salary Range: $18-$20/hour

Hours per week: 20 - 25 hours weekly

Availability: Mon., Tues., Wed., and Thurs.

Daily work hours range: 8:30 am – 2:00pm

 

Job Description: Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, position involves a variety of

tasks to lead weekly nature programming at Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission’s (WCPARC) Summer Day Camps.  Summer Day Camps are available to ages 5 to 11.

 

Job duties include, but are not limited to: Participating in Counselor orientation, program and material preparation, independently leading nature education programs for each of the three Summer Day Camps once per week. 

 

The WCPARC holds Summer Day Camps at 3 different locations: Mary Lou Murray (MLM) Recreation Center, Independence Lake County Park, and Rolling Hills County Park. 

Nature programming for MLM Recreation Center takes place at Independence Lake County Park.

 

Nature programming consists of 2 programs daily, each program lasting 1 hour. 

 

Orientations are scheduled for the following dates and must be attended:

  • June 1 @ Rolling Hills County Park
  • June 6 @ Independence Lake

May be requested to perform job-related duties other than those outlined above. 

Reports to Volunteer and Education Program Supervisor

 

Summer Schedule:

Monday – Prep at County Farm Park

Tuesday – Independence Lake County Park 

Wednesday – Independence Lake County Park or County Farm Park

Thursday – Rolling Hills County Park 

Rolling Hills runs June 9 through August 21 (11 weeks).

Independence Lake runs June 9 through August 5 (9 weeks).

MLM runs June 16 through August 17 (9 weeks).

  • Week 9 @ MLM is a camp experience designed for 13 to 30-year-old Washtenaw County teenagers and young adults with moderate cognitive impairment.

 

Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; college­level course work in natural

resources, interpretation, or related field preferred.

 

Experience: A minimum of one (1) year related work experience or education that includes leading public environmental education programs or field trips.

 

Requirements:  Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work site.

Pass a background test. 

 

Necessary Special Requirements: Must be physically capable of hiking on uneven ground, working outside, and lifting up to 30lbs.
