PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Athenian School seeks a middle school PE teacher to teach two sections of combined seventh and eighth grade physical education classes. This candidate will work closely with other physical education teachers to develop the Middle School Health and Fitness curriculum, teach 2 to 3 electives, participate in 8-9 Focus Days, and provide differentiated instruction for various ability groupings. They will teach cognitive concepts about fitness and motor skills through a variety of games, sports, and fitness experiences. The middle school PE teacher will evaluate student progress in graded formal reports and communicate progress in-person, over email, and at parent-student conferences. This person will co-advise and co-lead weekly advisory group meetings, participate in all middle school activities, events, and faculty meetings, and chaperone one of the overnight Middle School class trips.

They will possess the ability to collaborate effectively with students and colleagues, a clear love of athletics, and an understanding of and appreciation for working with adolescents. We seek candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field of study.

BENEFITS, COMPENSATION, PROFESSIONAL GROWTH & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Athenian salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center. The 1.0 FTE annual salary basis for this role ranges from $80,000-$145,000. Additionally, faculty receive additional stipends for completed Masters and Doctoral degrees. 

All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor.
