This internship is within IWP’s Office of Events and Communications. It provides an introduction to the world of event planning and communications.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates are upper-level undergraduates or recent graduates studying communications, international relations, public relations, political science, or related disciplines. Strong writing and organizational skills are essential, as is a high degree of professionalism and attention to detail.
Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with basic communications tools; experience with design software (e.g. Canva) or email platforms (e.g. Mailchimp, Eventbrite) is a plus. The ability to manage multiple tasks, respond calmly under pressure, and engage respectfully with VIPs, scholars, and government officials is crucial.
A demonstrated interest in international affairs or national security is highly desirable. Interns must be able to commute to IWP’s Washington, D.C. campus and commit 20–25 hours per week during the fall semesters.
Key Responsibilities
Events and Communications Interns will assist in the end-to-end management of IWP-hosted events, including preparing invitations and promotional materials, managing guest lists, coordinating logistics, and providing on-site support during lectures and receptions. Interns will also play a role in drafting announcements, creating content for newsletters and the website, and helping to maintain the Institute’s calendar. They may contribute to coverage of events on social media platforms and provide follow-up reporting, photography, or copywriting as needed. Interns will also help ensure consistency in the Institute’s branding and contribute to strategies for increasing audience engagement.
