
Communications & Marketing Director
Clean Ocean Action (COA) seeks an enthusiastic, driven, and dedicated Communications & Marketing Director (“Director”) to create, plan, develop, manage, maintain, implement and monitor all aspects of internal and external communication and marketing products. The Director ensures work products, both digital and non-digital, are inspiring and motivating, and increasing COA’s productivity, visibility, engagement and resources. The Director develops, incorporates, and maintains creative and clear key messaging, channels, and tactics, as well as develops and attains robust goals for successful communications and marketing as evidenced by increased volunteers, donations, social media followers, and engagement in programs. The Director also coordinates and maintains all media relations and events (traditional and non-traditional). This position is in consultation with the Executive Director and Management and Operations Director.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Create and implement an annual Communications and Marketing Plan and Calendar to promote organizational issues, events, and programs that is integrated with staff.
- With content and support from staff for program work and events, create and coordinate internal and external digital and print communications (e.g., monthly newsletters, reports, posters, flyers, advertisements, invitations and others) and communicate through appropriate and available outlets.
- With content and support from staff for program work and events, draft, coordinate, and post content (e.g. social media, website, Constant Contact, video/reels, blog, communication outlets, and content platforms), as well as manage and monitor responses including using analytics to improve and grow social media engagement
- Coordinate all media inquiries, contacts, relations, and opportunities, including press statements, advisories/alerts, releases, interviews, events, press conferences, and media coverage.
- Ensure all communication and marketing is clear, consistent, and aligned with COA’s goals and values.
- Ensure increased participation and connection to COA programs with engagement
- Update, maintain, and enhance the website, and participate in the Website Redesign Team
- Assist with materials for annual appeals (End of Year and Summer)
- Assist with promotion/marketing for all programs (including but not limited to Student Environmental Advocates & Leasers, Student Summit, Beach Sweeps, Seaside Environmental Academy, Rally for the Waterways, etc.).
- Cultivate innovative connections with ocean photographers and influencers.
- Assist with digital events such as webinars, virtual meetings, and live streaming activities.
- Maintain contact management and cultivation.
- Enhancement and integration of COA branding in all aspects.
- Assist with materials related to fundraising efforts, including COA Events and External Events.
- Maintain communication & marketing platforms and outlets (i.e., Meta Business Suite, Constant Contact, MS Planner, other outlets/programs)
Qualifications:

Education & Experience - Degree and/or 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field • Superior verbal and written communication abilities, including strong mastery of the English language and excellent editing and proofing skills • Passion for the ocean and commitment to environmental advocacy

Technical Skills - Digital and print content creation experience and application • Social media platform experience, including experience and strong knowledge of Meta Business Suite from a management perspective (not just posts) • Graphics and publication production experience • Website development & maintenance required (Concrete CMS experience, a plus) • PC, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite proficiency • Adobe Creative Cloud proficiency • Video creation and editing, a plus •

Position Requirements & Compensation:
- This is a full-time salaried position located in-person at the COA office in Long Branch.
- Meetings/events as scheduled, including evenings and weekends at times.
- Travel to/from COA-related events using a personal vehicle is required and compensated.

Annual Salary: competitive and commensurate with education, experience, proven success and other qualifications
