Who is IRT?
Information Resources & Technology (IRT) partners with faculty, staff, and students to provide essential information technology services that support mission critical activities and innovative technology solutions that facilitate the accomplishment of strategic campus goals at Sacramento State.
WHAT IS THE WEB SERVICES GRADUATE STUDENT INTERNSHIP?
This Grad student assistant position will work in the Web & Mobile Services focused on special web & mobile projects. Duties may include reviewing website content, documenting processes and conducting general administrative tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate student in good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and for each semester while employed) and in good disciplinary standing with the University when appointed and for the duration of the employment period
- Must demonstrate strong decision-making abilities while staying focused on the needs of the community.
- Must work collaboratively with others in a conscientious and empathic manner.
- Excellent English verbal communication and writing skills.
- Responsible and dependable.
- Ability to work well with various people including students, faculty, staff, and high-level administrators.
- Motivated, innovative, and shows initiative.
- Proficiency in HTML/CSS and web development standards
- Proficiency with Windows OS
- Proficiency with communication software and Internet applications (e.g., Web browsers, FTP, secure POP mail programs).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of commonly used operating systems, like Windows, macOS, iOS, Android.
- Knowledge of commonly used campus software, like Canvas, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Zoom.
- Knowledge or experience using campus services, including class enrollment, EAB, One Card Services, Print Smart, and eduroam.
- Proficiency in advanced web development languages including XSLT, PHP, .NET, Python, etc.
- Proficiency Web Standards and best practices.
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat & Photoshop.
- Knowledge of web accessibility requirements and tools.
- Knowledge of interactive design principles, standards and theories.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Web Services staff, the Graduate Intern will be responsible for the following:
- Assist with accessibility testing and remediation of digital content using tools such as Siteimprove and Adobe Acrobat, and Equidox.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of web pages to check for broken links, outdated content, and formatting issues.
- Support the migration and organization of training resources into SharePoint or other internal platforms.
- Document web content updates and changes to support team knowledge sharing and version control.
- Research best practices in higher education web design, mobile app user experience, and content accessibility.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving website usability and user engagement.
- Assist in analyzing website analytics and usage data to help inform content strategy decisions.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Interns should be available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week (up to 20) between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm M-F.
- The internship is a one academic year commitment.
- The work is performed in an office environment with continuous contact with students, staff, and the campus community.
