Youth Development District Assistant

The Longhorn Council, Scouting America, is currently seeking candidates for the role of Youth Development District Assistant to cover areas such as Weatherford, Denton, and the Mid-Cities in Tarrant County. This is a full-time opportunity designed to provide a deep introduction to district operations, Scouting America's culture, and the core responsibilities of a District Executive. The goal of this position is to evaluate fit, develop skills, and identify emerging talent to ultimately serve in a permanent role as an full-time exempt District Executive with Scouting America.

This position offers hands-on experience in membership growth, fundraising, volunteer engagement, and program support—key pillars of Scouting’s mission delivery. The selected candidate will work under the guidance of a Field Director and contribute directly to the success of a local geographic area.

About the Longhorn Council:
The Longhorn Council is one of 230+ local councils under the Scouting America umbrella. Serving 23 counties across Central and North Texas, the council supports more than 10,000 youth and families annually, with headquarters in Hurst, TX and three premier camp facilities. The Longhorn council operates with a $7 million annual budget and a dynamic team focused on building the next generation of leaders through character-based youth development programs.

Duration & Schedule: This position averages 37 hours per week (flexible or fixed schedule as agreed upon).

Compensation: $20.00/hour, with no-more than 40 hours per week. The District Assistant will be assigned an individual office and a computer.

Benefits will include major medical, prescription coverage, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, accidental death, and Employee Assistance Program plus compensation for authorized and approved business-related expenses including mileage reimbursement. The Longhorn Council reimburses cell phone expenses $75 per month and business mileage at the current IRS mileage re-imbursement rate. Additionally, a generous vacation policy and ten holiday observances are offered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver excellent customer service and timely communication
  • Support growth in membership, revenue, and program delivery
  • Collaborate with diverse community leaders to grow youth participation
  • Build and sustain relationships with schools, civic groups, and faith-based partners
  • Recruit, train, and inspire volunteers
  • Represent Scouting positively in the community
  • Maintain strong ethics, productivity, and professional standards

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Self-motivation and strong time management skills
  • Comfort with public speaking and community engagement
  • A positive, punctual, and people-first approach
  • Organizational skills in planning and budgeting
  • Spanish-language skills (preferred)
  • Experience in non-profit, fundraising, or sales (preferred)
  • Scouting background (helpful but not required)
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (Preferred)

  • Must subscribe to the values of Scouting and the Scout Oath and Law
  • Must have a reliable personal vehicle and maintain insurance
  • Must pass criminal, reference, and driving background checks
