REC Solar has been Hawaii’s premier commercial solar provider since 2007 specializing in behind the meter solar, microgrids, and energy storage systems in Oahu, Maui, Big Island and Kauai. We are looking for a Hawaii based sales consultant that wants to help drive further solar adoption in Hawaii.
Position Summary:
As our Hawaii Business Development Consultant, you are the face of REC Solar with our potential customers. We believe in utilizing a consultative sales approach to understand our customers’ needs so that we develop the proper solution to meet those needs. We approach each project with integrity, delivering on what we say we are going to with open and honest communications.
The successful candidate will join the Behind the Meter team and be located in Hawaii. You will be expected to develop and execute a sales strategy for targeting a provided list of potential commercial and municipal customers who have been pre-screened as good candidates for solar installations at their facilities. We have a strong support structure of marketing, project finance, engineering and development to help you achieve your goals. The ideal candidate will be motivated, connected, organized, persistent, ethical and able to understand and present the technical and financial intricacies of a solar or solar + storage project.
This role will solely focus on Hawaii project opportunities. The ideal candidate will have experience selling solar or energy efficiency upgrades in this region and have a strong network of potential customers, understanding of local utilities and their rate structures, policy, interconnection requirements, and knowledge of the regional market including competitive landscape.
Our compensation and incentive plan is highly competitive. Our workplace is casual yet hard-working. Success in the project will be incentivized through goal-based compensation and hourly rate.
We’ll anticipate a 6-month appointment to this role but extensions will be reviewed as necessary with the potential for permanent employment.
Our ideal candidate will
- Have a demonstrated history of successfully meeting or exceeding quota in a complex technical B2B sales environment in Hawaii.
- Be comfortable prospecting and presenting to executive managers, owners, CEOs and board members.
- Understand solar project tariffs, pricing, financial return modeling and know how to sell financial products such as PPAs.
- Be able to work cross functionally to develop creative solutions that meets customer goals.
- Make ethical decisions and enjoy putting the customer first.
- Be disciplined in efforts and organized in requests for support.
- Effectively present solutions to clients that meet or exceeds their needs, while maintaining a Net Present Value that is acceptable for REC Solar to construct and own.
- Yearn for continuous improvement and learning in markets, sales approach and technically.
- Work with legal, project finance, project development and executive teams to negotiate and close transactions.
- Proficiently perform all required sales activities including: sales prospecting, partner development, qualifying, account management, site evaluations, proposals, presentations, networking, relationship building, partnering, territory management, managing use of resources, etc.
- Generate customized proposals, quotes and formal RFP responses.
- Be able to travel frequently (>25%), spend time and meet with customers face to face.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with many deliverables and prioritize competing demands.
- Attend industry and regulatory conferences to network and seek out project opportunities.
What you’ll need in order to succeed
- Minimum 2 years sales experience with at least 1 year in renewable energy
- HI energy related sales experience required
- Ability to pursue leads/opportunities through personal efforts including networking, email and calling, and other market penetration techniques
- Proficient with computer software programs such as Microsoft Office and Hubspot or Salesforce.com
- Excellent oral, written, presentation and communication skills
- Proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar, basic business math
- Desire to win and ability to accept feedback, gather competitive intel and make quantitative based decisions
- Handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion
- Strong understanding of complex B2B selling, professional sales training a plus
- Ability to review and understand design plan sets a plus
- Knowledge of electrical terms and able to discuss with clients
