Front Desk Staff-Library Circulation-FWS
The Circulation department is the “Union Station” of the library. A successful candidate for this department needs to be interested in customer service, be people-focused, detail-oriented, and able to work a set schedule each week for the indicated semester.
Seeking 3-5 student workers able to work specific hours, such as lunchtime during weekdays, closing shifts, and select weekend hours. (*Each student will work at least one Saturday during the semester.)
Job description:
- Assisting student, faculty, staff, and community members with checking materials in and out of the library
- Sending faxes
- Taking money for fines and fees
- Booking study rooms for students
- Assisting with printing and copying as needed
- Directing people to locations in the library and helping them locate materials
- Answering the telephone
- Data entry and link verification
- Checking the library’s book drops
- Assisting other library departments with assigned projects
Keeping the library materials collections in order includes:
- Learning the Library of Congress system of cataloging (through on-the-job training)
- Shelving items in the correct order
- Maintaining the proper order on the shelves and straightening shelves as needed
Assisting with maintaining order in the library includes:
- Straightening study areas
- Dusting and wiping down surfaces
- Cleaning white boards
- Pushing in chairs and straightening casual seating
- Emptying book drops
- Filling printers and copiers with paper, keeping areas around printers neat, and filling staplers and tape dispensers as needed
