Overview
The Engineer II will demonstrate commitment to providing continuous quality service, protect and promote the brand, image, and reputation of the City, while striving to exceed the needs and expectations of our citizens and employees.
Additional Incentive
· Bonus: $5,000 initial sign on bonus (external candidates only)
Responsibilities
· Prepare engineering design calculations, contract documents, specifications, and cost estimates
· Conduct field investigations and visits to future projects and current construction sites
· Prepare, analyze, and review engineering reports including plans, specifications, contract documents, and field data
· Requires knowledge of engineering and construction methods and materials
· Prepare reports and assist with agenda materials and requests to advertise
· Provide support and information during design, advertising, bidding, and construction of public works projects
· Interact effectively with the public, staff consultants, engineers, and other agents
· Coordinate with field staff to develop the priority list on the projects
· Research design specifications
· Manage multi-million dollar public works projects
· Investigate and document complaints; resolve disputes
· Prepare change orders to project specifications and direct changes in the field for public works projects under their control and responsibility
· Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
· Exempt – Full-Time
· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
· In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
· No prior experience required
Licenses and Certifications
Required
· Engineer-in-Training certificate required at time of hire
· Must be actively pursuing a Texas Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
· A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
