Accounting Intern

Position Summary:

As an Accounting Intern at Sprague, you will immerse yourself in the world of accounting and finance, working closely with our team to understand the intricacies of financial systems and principles. You will collaborate with colleagues across all organizational levels, develop and document processes, and discover how accounting and finance contribute to Sprague's overall success.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.
  • Support payroll processing, including reviewing regular payroll, bonus, and commission tracking, calculations, and payments.
  • Aid the accounting team in daily operations, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Document process flows, validate report completeness and accuracy.
  • Support compliance processes related to expenditures, approvals, and reporting.
  • Participate in audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Collaborate with various departments to gather and validate financial data.
  • Learn and apply accounting principles and practices in real-world scenarios.
  • Contribute to the improvement of financial processes and systems.
  • Perform administrative duties such as reporting, data entry, distribution of information, mailings, and reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Actively pursuing (or completed) a degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts and risk factors to stakeholders and influence decision-making.
  • Ability to pass background screening requirements, including identity, education, credit, and criminal history checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in business management, accounting, or customer service roles (e.g., retail or food service).
