Dorm Parents Co-Directors

San Marcos Academy is accepting applications for full-time Dorm Parents (Co-Directors for our Residential Life Department). SMA is seeking a ministry and mission-minded husband and wife to run the residence life program. The couple that is chosen to head this program will provide care, mentoring, and discipleship of boarding students in their day-to-day life at SMA. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Understand and implement appropriate relational ministry in order to support the students in their pursuit of spiritual, academic, and physical excellence.
  2. Monitoring and supervising students and staff within the context of the Residence Life program.
  3. Serve as a positive role model through appropriate behavior and personal standards.
  4. Maintain accountability procedures for boarding students according to the Student Handbook and resident hall expectations.
  5. Maintain open communication with students, parents and/or guardians of boarding students.
  6. Maintain open communication with supervisors, to include timely and appropriate documentation.
  7. Act as point person for emergency situations and serve on the Crisis Management Team
  8. Monitor and supervise: residence hallways and common areas, dining hall during meals, special events (on and off campus), registrations, campus events (including graduation) and the grounds assigned to the individual dormitories
  9. Perform the following administrative tasks: overseeing dormitories, scheduling, mentoring, training, delegating, prioritizing, coordinating, hiring/firing, timesheets, weekly meetings, Disciplinary Review Boards (DRBs), administrate level system, facility oversight (maintenance, inventory, and janitorial), oversee and manage expenditures, oversee residence life staff, assist students in life and social skills, working with other departments (business office, student activities, Christian ministries, infirmary, counselor, school staff, athletics, maintenance, campus safety, and administration), answering phones, documenting, filing, occasional one-to-one monitoring, and walking grounds are monitored
  10. Work with the Admissions Department by communicating with prospective students and their parents about the residential life program, as well as contacting returning students during the summer and school breaks.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

 

  1. Bachelor's Degree
  2. Knowledge of the student handbook and the rules and procedures of the Residence Life department
  3. Understanding of basic safety precautions, including mental health
  4. Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies according to Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
  5. Current Texas Driver’s License (Commercial preferred)
  6. Ability to work in a team setting
  7. CPR & First Aid certified one spouse (will provide training)
  8. Knowledge of adolescent development & education (preferred)

 

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Knowledge of SMA’s mission, vision, and core values
  2. Maintain an above-average work attendance record
  3. Observe professional and ethical behavior standards
  4. Represent SMA with appropriate appearance

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervise Assistant Boarding Directors.
  2. Supervise Resident Assistants, Night Proctors, and volunteers for the Boarding Program.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ministry and mission-minded couple.
  2. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and some weekends.
  3. Be able to fill in for other directors in emergency situations to provide relief to the dorm staff.

 

Compensation: Determined by qualifications and related experience. The compensationtion package includes salary, housing, and meals.

 

Start Date: Summer 2025
