Healthcare Quality Student Internship Program

This position is located with the Bureau of Public Information and Regulatory Affairs. 

The Department of Public Health (DPH) seeks two (2) paid internship positions to participate in the six (6) week Healthcare Quality Student Internship Program this summer.

Under direct supervision of the Director of Public Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Division of Healthcare Quality, assists the Division program areas with projects that support the agency's mission and core values.

This opportunity will provide diverse and well-rounded experiences and learning opportunities to college students or recent graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. Under direct supervision of the Bureau of Public Information and Regulatory Affairs in Healthcare Quality, interns will rotate through each of the deputy area's bureaus and offices, gaining a broad perspective of Healthcare Quality’s role in improving quality, safety, and administration of healthcare facilities, services, and professionals in South Carolina.

Healthcare Quality interns will shadow staff as they conduct on-site inspections/surveys/ investigations of healthcare facilities, service providers, and/or applicants and assist program area staff with various tasks and projects. These positions will have opportunities to assist with the regulation promulgation process, the review of standard operating procedures (SOPS), and project management. Interns will also assist with gathering information for media, legislative, and constituent requests. At the completion of the program, interns will be required to submit a personal essay describing their experience participating in the program.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this class.

Please note that the agency will require an official, certified copy of the transcript or diploma prior to hiring. Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Preferred Qualifications

Healthcare Student Interns must be able to apply knowledge and coursework to assist with programmatic tasks. Students who are currently majoring in or have graduated with a degree in a related healthcare field are strongly preferred. Must be able to report to the office Monday - Friday located in Columbia, South Carolina. 

There is no opportunity for remote work.

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
