Graduate Assistant - Communication & Engagement

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: 

RESPONSIBILITIES: (75%)

  • Create marketing and promotional materials for Library & Learning activities (examples: social media postings, posters, flyers, etc.).  
  • Create content and help to manage Library & Learning’s social media accounts.
  • Assist with design and look of the Library & Learning newsletter and assist with creating content, if necessary.
  • Assist, plan, and promote outreach and engagement activities and programs.  
  • If appropriate, attend campus committee meetings (examples: Welcome Week Committee, Family Weekend Committee).  
  • Understand the overall mission and goals of Library Services.
  • Assist other areas of Library & Learning as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES: (25%)

  • Assist the Accessibility & Inclusion Librarian with research and study on user experiences pertaining to services and resources offered by Library & Learning.
  • Assist with assessment duties and responsibilities, including user experience.  
  • Study published literature on the topic of user experience (UX) in public spaces, to help identify where improvements are needed and how to implement those improvements within Library & Learning.
  • Attend appropriate library-focused meetings, such as Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, Instruction, Administration, etc. and participate as a full member.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A bachelor's degree
  • Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Strong written communication skills with experience in technical, copy, and/or journalistic writing.  
  • Experience with creating social medial content for Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Strong design knowledge and skills, including experience with using Canva and Adobe InDesign.
  • Strong computer knowledge and skills.  
  • Experience in event planning, assessment, marketing, graphic design, qualitative or quantitative research, and/or curriculum development.
  • Majoring in any of the following fields: public relations, communication, journalism, marketing, graphic design, mass media, social work, public administration, or public health.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good time-management skills. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

SALARY/STIPEND: Up to $10,000 plus tuition stipends, dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment, and assignment. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for a tuition waiver. 

RELATED INFORMATION:
