Curatorial Intern

Position reports directly to Recreation Supervisor. Regular feedback through formal and informal meetings will be given on a weekly basis.

Experiential intern functions:

  • Research, accession, and deaccession of artifacts.
  • Participation with bi-monthly Museum, Historical, and Advisory Committee (MHAC).
  • Other opportunities can be considered depending on the interest of the intern selected.

SUMMARY: The Historical, Museum, and Curation Research Intern will be an integral part of the planning and execution of exhibitions at the A.W. Perry Museum, as well as assisting in the care and maintenance of the collection. The Curatorial Intern will assist with research and development of current and upcoming exhibitions within the house. The intern compiles information and materials about the exhibits and gathers support materials for the exhibit. The intern will also assist in maintaining condition reports on all objects and simple data entry regarding the collection as well as running the daily operations of the museum.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, coordinates, organizes, and activities related to the museum exhibit, programs and events.
  • Maintains and updates a variety of records pertaining to the museum exhibit and collection.
  • Learn the daily operations of the museum including but not limited to: exhibit tours, opening/closing procedures, management of collection and exhibit spaces.
  • Provides assistance and guest service to the general public, which includes providing guided/self-guided tours, answering telephones, and/or performing other related activities.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in a variety of meetings, seminars, conferences, training sessions, and/or other related events.
  • Publicizes, markets, and promotes programs using a variety of media sources; oversees the distribution and/or dissemination of promotional materials.
  • Identifies and resolves potentially hazardous situations.
  • Participates in preparing and monitoring budget.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
