Student Equipment Manager
Position Title: Student Equipment Manager – Men’s Hockey (Division I)
Department: Athletics – Men’s Ice Hockey
Reports To: Head Equipment Manager / Coaching Staff
Location: Northern Michigan University, Marquette, MI
Position Summary:
The Student Equipment Manager supports the daily equipment operations of the NMU Men’s Division I Hockey team. This hands-on role involves preparation and maintenance of gear, assisting with practices and games, and ensuring smooth day-to-day equipment logistics. The role includes direct support within team locker room settings and travel with the team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with setting up and tearing down equipment for practices and games
Manage laundry for uniforms and gear
Maintain and organize the locker room and equipment storage areas
Assist with equipment inventory and repair as needed
Coordinate with coaching staff to ensure all player equipment needs are met
Travel with the team as required (includes nights and weekends)
Ensure compliance with all NMU and NCAA rules and guidelines
Schedule:
Weekday practices: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Evening and weekend hours during home games
Travel commitments during select away games
Qualifications:
Must be a currently enrolled NMU student in good academic standing
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and able to handle confidential and sensitive information
Due to the nature of the role and shared locker room access, this position requires a male candidate to maintain appropriate boundaries and privacy in accordance with Title IX and athletic department policies
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with hockey equipment, gear maintenance, or team management
Familiarity with NCAA athletic programs
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Ability to travel with the team (bus, flights, etc.)
