AI Researcher / Data Scientist

A stealth-mode AI startup backed by a team of former AI and infra engineers from leading tech firms is on a mission to improve the reliability of LLM-powered applications. We're looking for an AI Researcher / Data Scientist to help us push the boundaries of model evaluation, fine-tuning, and synthetic data generation. This is a high-impact opportunity to build at the frontier of LLMOps in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

Role:
🎯 Develop and implement novel AI algorithms to automate improvements in LLM-powered applications
🧠 Train fine-tuned and reward models using large datasets aligned with domain expert preferences
🧪 Invent synthetic data generation methods to augment human review and evaluation
🤝 Collaborate with engineers and product teams to integrate AI solutions into our core platform
📚 Stay current with the latest in LLMs — including evaluation frameworks, prompt engineering, and open-source models (DBRX, Mistral, Llama 3, etc.)
📝 Document methodologies and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements:
🎓 Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or related field
🐍 Strong programming experience with Python and frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow
🧩 Solid understanding of NLP and hands-on experience working with large language models
🛠️ Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
🔧 Familiar with git and modern development workflows
🧑‍💼 Significant post-academic experience, ideally in applied ML research or production systems

Nice to Have:
🚀 Experience working in early-stage startup environments
🧪 Familiarity with LLM evaluation methodologies (e.g., Prometheus, benchmarks)
🔍 Experience debugging, fine-tuning, or training custom LLMs
🛠️ Built or contributed to full ML pipelines in production
📄 Publications in top AI/ML journals or conferences
☁️ Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure
📦 Knowledge of Docker and/or Kubernetes
