2025 Arts Internship positions will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County.

We are seeking a Program Intern for our artist talks and site visits. This position will appeal to anyone wishing to gain experience in community engagement via hands-on art making and community gathering/story sharing grounded by Indigenous principles of reciprocity and Hyonaayn’ar--a Tongva word that means both teacher and student.  Working directly with our Program Coordinator, Executive Director, and Indigenous Advisor, the intern will assist in all aspects of preparation and implementation of the River Sessions including monthly in-person site visits with a group of 30-40 participants to different places along the LA River with featured artists as guides. This position will work approximately 15-20 hours a week from June 2025 through February 2026.

 

Qualifications

This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills. An ideal candidate is detail-oriented and able to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines. They must be proficient in using Google Suite, developing spreadsheets, and conducting presentations. Familiarity with Google Meet and other video conferencing is ideal. The Intern must be physically capable of performing all activities and interact effectively with individuals at all social and economic levels. Enthusiasm for the mission of LA River Arts and the communities we serve is required.

Who is Eligible for the LA County Arts Internship Program?

2025 Arts Internship positions will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Recent graduates may apply as long as they have completed their degree between May 1 - December 1, 2025. The Department of Arts and Culture encourages eligible students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as disabled students, to apply. Eligible students may participate in the program only once.

Note:

  • Students who have already earned a BA, BS, or a higher degree are not eligible for the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program.
  • Students who have previously participated in the program are not eligible to participate a second time.
  • Students must posses the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Students who are invited to participate in the program will be asked to provide verification of eligibility via college transcripts, driver’s license, and other documents to show enrollment status and/or LA County residence.
     

Background

Founded in 2014, LA River Public Art Project combines advocacy, public policy, and the arts to re-present the river we share. We believe that dynamic public art is the ideal platform for focusing public attention on the Los Angeles River. Our efforts confirm the value of inclusionary art-based public projects, raise the visibility of artists and engage communities, and envision a robust river cultural environment.
