INTERNSHIP POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Technology Intern REPORTS TO: Vice President of Technology
DEPARTMENT: Administrative
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:
The Technology Intern will support the mission of Homewood Retirement Centers by providing hands-on technical assistance and outstanding customer service to residents at their assigned community. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting while gaining exposure to technologies that enhance the lives of seniors. Under the mentorship of the Vice President of Technology, the intern will develop professional skills, gain valuable industry insight, and contribute to improving resident satisfaction and organizational productivity.
This is an unpaid internship opportunity. Interns are not classified as employees and will not receive wages or benefits. Students may be eligible to receive academic credit for this internship depending on their school’s requirements. Homewood Retirement Centers will provide any necessary documentation to support the process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Models the organization’s stated core values.
- Treats all information about residents, their condition, and family as well as personnel matters as confidential information.
- Complies with established Corporate and Departmental policies and procedures and maintains established standards and practices.
- Serve as the first point of contact for technical support to residents in person, by phone, email, or remote access.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic hardware and software issues.
- Stay current with resident-facing technology, including mobile devices, tablets, laptops, social media, and Microsoft productivity tools.
- Maintain a regular support schedule and document all support interactions and follow-up actions.
- Test and provide feedback on new products and features prior to resident use.
- Assist in the deployment and support of tools aimed at improving the resident technology experience.
- Support continuous learning and training initiatives by collaborating with vendor partners and attending training sessions.
- Demonstrate a professional and customer-focused approach to problem-solving.
- Performs other functions as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program with a focus in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Class level: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior.
- Foundational knowledge of computer systems, software applications, and mobile devices.
- Strong interest in technology and a passion for helping others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt technical explanations to a non-technical audience.
- Patience, empathy, and a willingness to work closely with older adults in a respectful and supportive manner.
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Customer service experience or a demonstrated commitment to delivering positive user experiences is preferred.
- Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week during the academic term.
- Must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, and TB test prior to the start of the internship.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment such as laptops, monitors, and small peripherals (up to 25 lbs).
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and kneel as needed to access and install equipment.
- Prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen and using a keyboard and mouse.
- Ability to move between different campus locations, including walking or driving as necessary.
