WIC Services Associate
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
This position provides paraprofessional services to the WIC program by determining program eligibility, conducting basic health and nutrition assessments, providing basic nutrition and health education, program referral, explaining program policy and procedure, and explaining and distributing supplement food benefits. Duties are performed in a manner that maintains client information in a confidential and organized way and maintains the clinic's appearance and function.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience in health or human service delivery, performing tasks such as program eligibility determination, health screening, client referral services, or nutrition education.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health-related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should possess:
- Experience working with pregnant women and/or families with children from birth until they are 5 years old.
- Bilingual, preferred Spanish.
- Strong skill set and/or training in communication, emotional intelligence, and motivational interviewing.
- Experience working effectively in a fast-paced clinic setting.
- Experience with the WIC program or work experience in the WIC setting.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
