Fashion and Culture Specialist Intern

zhuzh is a brand dedicated to preserving the stories, artisans, and techniques of Africa and the African Diaspora through fashion. We aim to merge the beauty of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary fashion, while advocating for sustainability and cultural preservation. At zhuzh, we focus on working closely with artisans, leading cultural workshops, and developing creative projects that highlight the richness of African heritage. We are now looking for a Fashion and Culture Specialist Intern to join our team and help us expand our mission.

Position Overview

As a Fashion and Culture Specialist Intern, you will play an essential role in researching, identifying, and helping zhuzh gain visibility within brands, key cultural institutions and events, such as museums, festivals, and conferences. You will serve as the bridge between our mission and the broader community, helping us engage with organizations, festivals, and cultural institutions that align with zhuzh’s vision of promoting sustainable fashion and cultural heritage.

What You’ll Do

Research  brands, cultural institutions, museums, festivals, and events that align with zhuzh’s mission of cultural preservation, sustainability, and fashion.

Identify key partnerships with relevant brands, organizations, institutions, and cultural entities that can elevate zhuzh’s visibility and bring awareness to our projects.

Support the creation of impactful partnerships with other brands, institutions, or influencers that align with our brand values and mission.

Monitor trends and shifts in the fashion and cultural landscape, advising the team on relevant spaces zhuzh should be present in.

Who You Are

Passionate about culture and fashion: You have a strong understanding of the intersections between fashion, culture, sustainability, and the African Diaspora.

Excellent researcher: You’re skilled at identifying trends, tracking industry developments, and understanding cultural landscapes.

A great communicator: You know how to write compelling messages, emails, and reports that clearly convey the value of zhuzh and its mission.

Proactive and strategic: You can think critically about opportunities for collaboration and engagement, while contributing fresh ideas to expand the reach of zhuzh.

Creative and resourceful: You are excited about using fashion to bridge cultural gaps and foster meaningful relationships within the community.

Requirements

A passion for fashion, culture, and sustainability, particularly within the context of Africa and the Diaspora.

Strong research skills and the ability to identify trends, organizations, and opportunities.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Proactive, strategic thinker with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively.

A positive attitude and strong desire to learn and grow in the fashion and cultural space.

Must be available to commit 10-15 hours per week.
