Capital City Intern - Graduate Students

The City of Saint Paul Department of Planning and Economic Development is hiring for a Economic Development Research Intern. This intern will receive relevant on the job training and mentoring while working on projects that directly impact stakeholders, and are designed to enhance their academic experience.

Information About the Internship:

This internship will focus on assisting with research, data collection, and analysis to advance the Commercial corridor profile work and the MSPTechHire scholarship program.

Here's what you can expect to do.
 

Integrate legacy datasets from multiple departments into a centralized data management system using Microsoft tools.

Analyze economic impacts of HRA-funded development projects through detailed reporting and data collection.

Develop templates, tools, and processes to enhance the Economic Development team’s storytelling and communication efforts.

Engage with local businesses through outreach and informational interviews to gather insights and build relationships.

Visualize geographic and economic data using charts, maps, and tables to inform policy decisions and promote business growth.

Track MSP TechHire program outcomes and research tech occupations, skill requirements, training providers, and career pathways.

Support the implementation of commercial corridor programs through coordination and data-driven decision-making.

 Internship Details:

  • This internship is full-time during the summer, with potential for extension during the school year

Position Requirements:

  • Have completed at least one semester of undergraduate or graduate school in public policy, planning, urban studies, geography, public administration, applied economics, political science, business administration, housing studies, architecture, or a related field
  • Must maintain active student status for the duration of internship

Temporary: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements. This position is eligible for Earned Safe and Sick Time (ESST). Other benefits are not provided.
