Marketing Associate Intern (Pack STEM, Happy Mushroom Co., Summer '25)

Internship Description: 

The Marketing Associate Intern will assist the Director of Sales and Business Development in implementing and executing a marketing strategy for Happy Mushroom Co. for the summer of 2025. This will include social media management and content creation, newsletter and blog post creation, Shopify website evaluation and updating, and (if applicable) working in-person events to sell product and connect with customers. As part of the social media and management, the intern will analyze the effectiveness of different marketing and advertisement through an evaluation structure, with the goal of identifying best marketing practices. The overarching goal of the program is to expand and refine our current marketing sector in a way that increases company sales and effectively conveys company values and brand ethos. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Complete 360 hours of work as an intern (32-40 hours per week, 12 weeks total) 
  • Manage HMC social media channels (IG, FB, TikTok) - research & create brand-aligned content based on 'themes' and schedule provided by Director of Sales and Business Development. 
  • Create and send out monthly newsletters based on 'theme' provided, including monthly promotions.  
  • Research, write, and send out bi-monthly blog posts based on 'themes' provided.  
  • Monthly evaluation of website and implementation of any updates that are approved by the Director. 
  • Monthly analytics report of previous months social media strategies that will be used to guide future content.  
  • End of term evaluation of marketing program and report on recommended best practices for HMC based on internship experience.  
  • Weekly meetings with director to check in, overview projects, and get feedback and/or approval of content.  
  • Working an average of one in-person event per week around the Reno/Tahoe area selling products to real life customers. These in person events are as desired and able, and not absolutely necessary as part of the internship, but the ability to do so is preferred. 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • To create content that is in alignment with the HMC brand, values, and mission. 
  • To create content that leads to increased conversion in sales. 
  • To create content that leads to increased brand equity. 
  • To implement valuable analytical tools and provide evaluation of marketing techniques. 
  • To add value to HMC marketing strategy by identifying areas of improvement through a creative lens beyond the direct responsibilities outlined by the director.  
  • To be largely self-directed based on the structure and feedback provided by Program Coordinator. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno after the Spring ‘25 semester  
  • Spring ‘25 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program 
  • Coursework in marketing or related area of study 
  • Desire to help build a marketing program for a start-up mushroom supplement company. 
  • Ability to think creatively about the development of content that captures the ethos of HMC. 
  • Familiarity and ability to use (or willingness to learn) Canva, videography/photography equipment, Mailchimp, and social media channels (IG, FB, TikTok). 
  • Capacity for researching and writing cohesive and creative copy surrounding mushrooms and our products.  
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.  
  • Ability to follow guidance, instructions, and meet deadlines. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability and willingness to work at least one in-person event per week. 
  • Ability to connect with people in a meaningful way that both creates connection and converts sales.  
  • Interest in mushrooms and sustainability. 
  • Ability to think critically and outside of the box in ways that can create value for HMC, even beyond the direct guidance of the director. 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern: 

Applicants must be available to meet in person at the HMC warehouse once per week for 2-3 hrs, either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday between the hours of 8am and 5pm. The majority of the work will be remote. If able and willing to work in person events, it will likely be on Thursdays in Incline Village, NV from the hours of 12:30pm-7:30pm (including driving time). However, this is subject to change. 

 

Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 360 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
