Description
Hennepin County Library (HCL) is seeking Youth Education Leads to work with K-12 residents, parents and caregivers, and community and educational partners, at Brookdale, Franklin, North Regional, and Rockford Road libraries. The individuals in this position will use their skills, knowledge, and experience to support K-12 youth and their families in meeting their education and literacy goals and will help all library patrons in accessing library collections and in fulfilling their information needs. Library Youth Education Leads will be responsible for supporting K12 education programming at their local library, overseeing operation of Let’s Read and Homework Help programs and providing support for other youth and family programs as needed. They will connect with schools and educators as well as internal Hennepin County partners who provide education support for residents.

This position is located at the following locations:
- Brookdale Library: 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430
- Franklin Library: 1314 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55404
- North Regional Library: 1315 Lowry Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55411
- Rockford Road Library: 6401 42nd Avenue North, Crystal, MN 55427
Work hours will include weekday, evening, and weekend hours. Library Youth Education Leads will be scheduled during out of school time hours when youth education programming takes place at their local library, and when local school events occur.

In these positions, you will:
- Coordinate K-12 education programs, including Let’s Read and Homework Help, that meet the needs of the community and fulfill the mission of HCL.
- Reach out to K-12 residents and their families, educational organizations and non-profit partners to learn more about needs and to support connecting them to library services.
- Be an in-person presence in welcoming the community to the assigned library through responsive customer service.
- Provide in-person services to library patrons including assistance with computers, job searching, and finding library resources.
- Perform a variety of patron service and materials handling tasks, including assisting patrons with their accounts and processing materials for circulation.
- Perform collection maintenance including selection, deselection, and redistribution of materials, including supporting children and teen collections.
- Implement outreach in the community, including attending local school and community events to support K-12 students and families.
- Develop, manage, and measure service outcomes to ensure work meets identified goals.
- Collaborate on systemwide teams to support service to K-12 students throughout Hennepin County Library.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- Four or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
- General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, political science, or other field appropriate to the position.

- Providing customer service to a wide variety of residents of all ages and backgrounds.
- Engaging with K-12 students and families and/or coordinating literacy programming.
- Building and delivering community responsive programming
- Facilitating groups and guiding them to create new processes.
- Using project management tools to coordinate community engagement efforts and/or projects.
- Engaging with Latine, African American, East African, People of Color in an educational or youth program setting.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of community engagement.
- Ability to:
- Demonstrate commitment for a diverse and inclusive organization that reflects the residents we serve.
- Connect with individuals from communities that the library serves.
- Work effectively with community members of all ages and abilities from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
