Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) is seeking two (2) Budget Fellows to complete substantive budget-related activities following the conclusion of the legislative session. This is an exciting opportunity for leaders passionate about public service and fiscal responsibility to develop and apply professional skills in the areas of research, analysis, budgeting, communication, policy evaluation and implementation, and relationship management. These are full-time positions expected to last from early June through mid-August.

Job duties for this position include:

  • Conducting research and analysis to support biennial budget enactment
  • Producing memos, reports, and other deliverables for the MMB Budget Services Division
  • Monitoring budgets and implementing current biennial budget expectations
  • Attending meetings and trainings

This position will be required to work onsite two (2) to three (3) days per week, depending on business needs and telework schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a public policy, public administration, or related graduate program
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (or similar application) and familiarity of other Microsoft products
  • Communication skills sufficient to convey complex and/or sensitive information to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to appreciate diversity and a strong commitment to a respectful and inclusive work environment

  • Experience performing administrative support duties related to budget or policy review, such as preparing data or reports, drafting or editing policy language, reconciling accounts, maintaining financial records, or tracking expenses
  • Experience performing research and analysis of budgetary or financial programs
  • Experience in the public sector (state, federal, county, municipal, or Tribal government)
  • Knowledge of public sector finance and budgeting processes
  • Knowledge of State policies and procedures
