About Sterling’s Summer Internship Program

The Sterling Summer Intern Program is a paid 11-week program from June 2 – August 15, 2025. Sterling interns are provided hands-on work experience building upon knowledge and skills learned in the classroom. Interns work side-by-side industry leaders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment who are passionate about being part of a team developing life-saving drugs around the world. Throughout the 11-week program, interns will work on defined individual projects to learn about GMP fundamentals and techniques from Sterling professionals. The program concludes with individual presentations to Sterling leaders.

 

Summary of role

Safety Summer Intern will participate as a member of the Germantown EHS Team to complete a comprehensive program mentored by the site EHS staff. Primary projects will include:

  • Exposure to industry RAGAGEPs and best practices
  • Exposure to GMP manufacturing
  • Hands on experience in pharma and process safety
  • Completion of hazard assessments and control strategies (BoS)

Sterling is seeking a highly motivated Process Safety or an Environmental Health and Safety intern. The student will be exposed several aspects of process safety management and EHS in general, as well completing one major project that is of high value to the organization. The position requires behaviors of the Sterling core competencies and non-negotiables, as well as expertise in functional competencies included in this position profile.

 

Education and Requirements

  • Enrolled in a 2 or 4-year college or university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an BS level Engineering student or EHS Chemical, Biomolecular, Biomedical, or Biochemical preferred having progressed to at least a Sophomore level. 
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills required.
  • Excellent detail orientation and organizational skills required.
  • Excellent problem-solving and basic trouble-shooting ability required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • An understanding of how to recognize, anticipate, and control occupational hazards.
  • Awareness or prior work experience in a GMP environment preferred.
  • Candidates need to be competent with IT systems, and Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

What to Expect for an Interview

Candidates who are invited to interview will be contacted by Sterling Human Resources to get a 30 minute phone or webex interview set up with the hiring manager.  During the interview you will be asked questions about your scientific and technical knowledge as well as behavioral-based questions.
